Riding in the Land Down Under
"At times in the past, I have been somewhat narrow minded in thinking that cycling is the best form of transportation in any scenario. While I still think that bike commuting is awesome, living in Sydney opened my eyes to all of the different ways people can get around and showed me that the answer to more equitable, sustainable transportation is not always just building more bike lanes. What works for one city may not work for another, and while I do hope Sydney develops their bike infrastructure more in the future, I have a newfound appreciation for other forms of transportation and how different cities can create safe, accessible, and sustainable transportation options for their citizens."
Dane County High School Bike Clubs Visit Trek Factory
"Not unlike bikes, it was clear from the tour that Trek is a company made up of many moving parts and components. From painting frames, to building websites, to testing helmets, there is a vast network of professionals who work together to get high quality bikes into the hands of individuals. Students had the opportunity to talk with a few of those professionals and learn about their specialized skills that they put to use at Trek. After meeting frame painters, biomedical engineers, and computer programmers, Maggie Benton, a freshman at Memorial High School emphasized the wide range of skills utilized to operate a global bicycle company. In their words, 'I didn’t know how many job opportunities there were at Trek… there’s kinda a place for everyone in the bike world, it’s really cool.'"
Sarah Widder’s Great State Trails Adventure
"Have you ever wondered what it would be like to ride every state trail in Wisconsin? Wisconsin is home to ~1,700 miles of state trails, and Sarah Widder is riding every single one of them.
In Sarah’s words, the goals of her journey are 'to raise awareness about the great bike infrastructure in Wisconsin, highlight Wisconsin as a premier bicycling destination, celebrate getting outside and adventuring in our great state, and raise money to support all the great organizations that work so hard to expand, maintain, and protect our natural resources and recreation opportunities in Wisconsin'.
We caught up with Sarah to learn more about what motivated her to take on this challenge, what she’s hoping to discover, and what her goals are moving forward."
